bali | indonesia | the streets...

walking the streets of seminyak to driving through the fields of ubud, i was struck by the colour and lushness of indonesia. our driver advised us that it hadn't rained for sometime and they were in desperate need of it, however everywhere we looked it was so immensely green.

the small daily offerings (as seen below) called canang sari  littered the sidewalks in a beautiful display of colour and tradition. the canang sari are a ritual of giving back what has been given to you by the gods. its not based on fear, but on gratitude.

i found the streets in seminyak to be relatively clean, full of life, busy, lots of development and growth, yet there was still a strong reminder that this is a third world country with no real road rules, unfinished footpaths and that lingering smell... out in ubud, you can sense that life is much simpler and the traditional life style still predominately exists. small homes haphazardly placed that only a local would be able to navigate its location.
